Performing at Roadburn is without a doubt one of the most honorable moments for a band from the international heavy underground. In the case of Death Alley, their return to Roadburn in 2016 was a milestone in the band’s history. Two years earlier, Death Alley experienced their true birth, according to their own account, after the seed for what would become the band was planted earlier that winter in Guy Tavares’ bunker. That seed came to fruition when the band opened the legendary festival in 2014 at the Cul de Sac and presented for the first time the repertoire that would lead to Black Magick Boogieland. After two turbulent years in which European and American rock audiences were introduced to the band, Roadburn 2016 was the ultimate opportunity to show that there are multiple versions of Death Alley. Guitar heroes from intimate personal circles were brought in. For example, Oeds brought Ron van Herpen from his The Devil’s Blood years to the stage, while Dennis brought Jevin de Groot, his brother-in-arms from Mühr, into the unit. Thus formed as Death Alley6, the band stretches the boundaries of the psychedelic and drawn-out musical spectrum even further. On Live At Roadburn you hear a version of Selim Lemouchi’s ‘It’s On’, an ode to a never-ending source of inspiration. The instrumental ‘666666’ builds on the musical connection between the Death Alley6 and flows into the new ‘Feeding the Lions’ – an amuse of the new chapter of Death Alley. On the B-side of the record you hear a 22-minute version of ‘Supernatural Predator’, whereby this formation forms an unprecedentedly powerful setting on the essential Roadburn, given the theme and history of this song. Live At Roadburn was recorded on April 15, 2016 in the Green Room of the Roadburn Festival in Tilburg.
